Prince George & Master Frederick
by Rosalind Freeborn

In 1765 a four-year-old orphan boy is bundled into a carriage with a woman he doesn’t know and taken to the Royal Palace at Richmond to be a playmate for the three-year old Prince George, son of King George III and Queen Charlotte. What is his secret connection to the King?

Cleverly blending fact and fiction, Prince George & Master Frederick is a compelling Georgian Royal Family saga following the lives of Prince George, future Regent and King, and his adopted secret brother, Master Frederick Blomberg.

As heir to the throne, Prince George grows up to be a greedy and extravagant pleasure-seeker, indulging in romantic liaisons and lavish building projects, such as the Brighton Pavilion. By contrast, Master Frederick was sent to Cambridge, to study Divinity and, once ordained, was appointed Chaplain to the Royal Family at Windsor Castle and Private Secretary to Prince George.

Although Prince George and Master Frederick pursue different paths in life, the brothers remained bonded by friendship and a shared love of music. As talented musicians they played duets for violin and cello at concerts in Royal Residences. Frederick Blomberg became renowned as an ‘eccentric parish priest’ who entertained his congregation by playing his fiddle during church services.

Frederick Blomberg remained close to the Royal Family throughout the tumultuous years of King George III’s madness. He was a witness to Prince George’s affairs, a secret wedding and his disastrous official marriage to Caroline of Brunswick.

After ten years as Prince Regent, Prince George was crowned King in 1820. The monarch’s friendship with Frederick endured until King George IV’s death in 1830 aged sixty-eight.

Seamlessly blending fact and fiction this compelling narrative is historical storytelling at its best…
